Our Pastoral Transition...

By the grace of God, Pastor Mark faithfully served as our lead pastor since the church’s birth in 1980. In more recent years, he and our church leadership recognized that there is wisdom in actively preparing now for the “passing of the baton” when that time comes. Should God lead and provide, we saw great value in “raising one of our own” to be mentored under Pastor Mark for the high calling of Senior Pastor. God indeed led and provided in this way. In August of 2013, a 7-year transition plan was implemented, during which time Pastor Mark gradually passed the preaching and leadership responsibilities to Pastor Chris. In January 2020 a pulpit committee was formed to evaluate Pastor Chris and Ruth, and based on their recommendation, in July 2020 the church membership voted unanimously to approve Chris for the role of Senior Pastor. Mark retired (“redeployed”) in September 2020 on his 40th anniversary as Senior Pastor of Discovery, and the baton was passed to Chris. Praise God for His goodness and grace in this chapter of our church family’s life!
