Chris & Ruth Rogers
Elder - Senior PASTOR
Both Chris and Ruth had the privilege of understanding their need for a Savior at an early age (Rom 3:10). The decision to accept God's free gift of salvation (Rom 6:23; Eph 2:8-9) has so positively impacted their lives, that they've dedicated themselves to sharing that same life-changing "gift" with others. They're often reminded that "to whom much is given, much is required" (Lk 12:48), so they count it a real joy to be serving with the church family at DBC.
Chris and Ruth served for six years as the DBC Awana Commander and Secretary. Chris's focus is now on his role as an elder and senior pastor. In addition to lay training in Biblical Counseling and Christian Ministry over the past 20 years, Chris served for two years as a pastoral assistant at his prior church, and led a chapel ministry for about twenty years at Stafford Suites Assisted Living Center in Port Orchard. He more recently took three theology classes at Corban University online and plans to continue his studies and biblical counseling training. After seven years as assistant pastor (our 7-year transition plan), Chris “received the baton” of senior pastor from his father-in-law, Mark Suko, in September of 2020. Ruth is involved in various ministries at DBC, including women’s ministry, music worship, interior decorating, ministry to moms of young children, and past "Becoming Beautiful" conferences for young ladies.
Chris moved from Fairfield, California to Port Orchard at age 18, while Gig Harbor has always been home to Ruth (Suko). They met for the first time on a sunny Sunday morning at DBC... and the rest is history. They were married in 2006, and thank God for the five children he’s blessed them with: Leo Christopher, Jacquelyn Kay, Tobin Alexander, Grace Lauren, and Tyman Truett. Chris was a classical/sacred piano teacher for 24 years and piano recording artist (www.TheSoundofPiano.com), and both he and Ruth enjoy sports, hiking, most anything outdoors, and good times with family and friends.
