Michael was saved by grace at an early age after being convicted of his sin and need for a Savior while attending VBS and was baptized in his early teens. Sally was raised in a pastor's home and at 19, by the grace of God's effectual call, received Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Michael grew up in the Gig Harbor area and met Sally while they were both working for a Christian ministry in Oklahoma, and they settled back in the Gig Harbor area after marrying in 1996. Michael and Sally have both been active in church ministry at Discovery Baptist with Michael serving as a deacon and heading up the Audio/Visual and IT ministries for many years as well as directing VBS. Sally has been involved with VBS, AWANA, and Sunday school at various times through the years and has served in the band and choir as well. Their son, Leif, serves on the Audio/Visual team focusing on the Livestream broadcast each week. The entire family enjoys hosting the Olalla SALT family potluck and fellowship each Thursday and deepening their relationships with each other and opening God's Word.
The Hellands have 5 children (Judson - 24, Judah - 22, Liesl - 21, Leif - 18, and Asher - 12) and are proud grandparents. They live on 23 acres in Olalla, raising beef cows, chickens, ducks, and a large garden, along with the requisite farm dogs and cats. Michael works as a Product Manager for T-Mobile and Sally keeps the family, farm, home, and home schooling going.
