Blessings Overflowing

A very happy time occurred this past year when all eight of our children (and their families) came together with us to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.

“You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings.” Psalm 23:5b

With Mother’s Day coming up this weekend my thoughts concerning blessings go toward our wonderful eight children given to us by God in His great kindness to my husband and me. God led us beautifully through difficult, as well as, joyous events during the forty-one years children were in our home. Now, He blesses us even more with the happiness of wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren; our “cup overflows with blessings.”

Perhaps the most important thing in my life during all my years of mothering (and even now) came down to spending real connected time with the Lord every day not only attentively reading His Word, but, also pouring my heart out to Him. I came across a beautiful quote from Samuel Burder (1773-1837)in his comments on Psalms 23:5b that pictures the blessings I sense in spending time alone with God. “In the East the people frequently anoint their visitors with some very fragrant perfume; and give them a cup or glass of some choice wine, which they are careful to fill till it runs over. The first was designed to show their love and respect; the latter to imply that while they remained there, they should have an abundance of everything.” I hope you daily experience such blessings.

This Thursday morning Zoom will bring us together at 9:30 to discuss this short passage of Scripture. I am looking forward to seeing you and encouraging you in staying close to the Lord.

THE BLESSED MONTH OF AUGUST 2019

The blessedness of having 28 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild all together on the same happy day!!!

The blessedness of having 28 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild all together on the same happy day!!!

August of 2019 absolutely stands out as one of the most amazing months of my life! If you click on the button above (A Happy 50th Anniversary Day) you will be able to view about 2 minutes that made this past August such an overwhelming blessing. Mark and I still get teary every time we muse on the rare occasion of having all of our children and their families together for the celebration of the 50 years of marriage the Lord has given to us.

All of these 50 plus years of the close friendship Mark and I have enjoyed have been deeply intertwined with Christ. He is the One who has given us direction, encouragement, inspiration and stability through times of abounding and seasons of difficulty. As we have faithfully read through the years what He has to say in the Bible, we have learned more and more about the way He has intended for us to think, respond, and live. We are so thankful that He rescued our souls when we were teenagers and He has continually been molding us into His likeness since then. To God be all the glory—great things He has done!!

FATHERS AND GRANDCHILDREN FROM A BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE

Proverbs 17:6 “Grandchildren are the crown of old men, And the glory of sons is their fathers.”

I love this verse from Proverbs that not only honors fathers, but, also tells of the great blessing grandchildren are to a grandfather. With Father’s Day just having passed this seems an appropriate time to acknowledge God’s intended beauty and blessing in family relationships. Truly godly fathers bless their children and even though it may take time for this to be realized, generally such a dad comes to be honored. But, also grandchildren usually bless the life of grandfathers. Rich lives are built on strong and healthy relationships and when the base of those associations have to do with the family, then so much more the blessing to everyone involved. Too often people try to connect wonderful lives to a good education, high paying jobs, and plenty of “me” time. But, the Bible always points us to beautiful relationships as the most valuable pursuit.

I’m looking forward to getting together with young moms in July to encourage this very point—building our lives and homes in God’s unparalleled way.
