Are you Too Easily Pleased?

Did you miss Pastor Chris’s message on Sunday? If you did, you can watch it at discoverybaptist.org; click on Livestream. The very concept our Ladies Bible Study sinks into in 1 Peter 1:1-12 perfectly aligns with everything Chris so passionately presented to us just this past Sunday. In fact the whole idea of finding our delight, joy, peace—everything—in God appears over and over again throughout the Bible. The bent of every one of us is toward the pursuit of these things through what we can see in this physical world. But everything we find here is but a cheap imitation of the genuine, lasting and satisfying delight, joy and peace that only God can give us.

Consider these words from CS Lewis. “If we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”
