Understanding Better the Sufficiency of God’s Word

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17

In the frantic search for meaning, fulfillment and purpose that has led many people down various Pied Piper paths, truly significant living stands in clear contrast as told to us by God’s ancient and perfect words in the Bible. Don’t be deceived by the thought that we are so advanced today that the Bible no longer is relavent. Through all the ages no one has ever had a better idea about life than God. That is why 2 Timothy says, All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” Particularly notice “that the man of God May be complete.” Everything we need to know concerning our life and God can be found within His holy Word.

I’m looking forward to lively discussion this Thursday morning at 9:30 during our Ladies Bible Study as we work through establishing the value of God’s word as our only source for understanding a flourishing life.

In Texas this Thursday

This Thursday morning Mark and I will be enjoying a visit with our son Ezra’s family in in the great state of Texas. We arrived Tuesday afternoon to mid 70 degree temperatures and lots of fun with our three sweet grandkids.

Although Ladies Bible Study will not be meeting this week, I want to encourage you to be thinking about ways we unconsciously add, or subtract, from God’s Word in practical living within our culture. We see issues like abortion very clearly, but, consider our own personal relationships within our families and other issues within our own lives that do not reflect a truly Biblical perspective.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

Sola Scriptura

This past Sunday morning Pastor Chris presented a great overview of the solas of the Reformation from over 500 years ago. Today those solas still hold great significance; Scripture alone, grace alone, faith alone, Christ alone and glory to God alone. Any one of these solas would be worthy of an in depth understanding. This week our Ladies Bible Study begins looking carefully at the first sola—Scripture alone (lesson 10). What is so unique about our Bibles from all other writings in the world? Why should we know what it says? Why should we trust the One who wrote it? The answers to these questions never fall into the category of the mundane. They make the difference between having real life and just existing. Study through 2 Peter 1:12-21 before coming to class on Thursday morning and be prepared to be encouraged in loving and living the Word.

Also, please note—you are invited to my house following our study this Thursday for lunch. I’m cooking up a couple of different soups/stews for you along with some delicious bread from Costco. We live just 2 blocks from the church building, so, it is a quick drive.
