When Mark and I have special anniversaries coming up we always celebrate all that year. This year the celebration is particularly big because we are in the 50th year of our marriage. As I reflect back, two things stand out to me; the speed of 50 years and the bliss of following what the Author of marriage has to say about it.
Actually, I think the speed and bliss are tightly tied together. A short time in misery can seem long, while a long time of enjoyment gives the opposite sense. Mark and I absolutely consider each other as best friend. We love doing everything together and we have never tired of being with each other day after day. Over the years our interests have merged and our passion to serve God has grown in unison.
Realize that none of this beautiful growth "just happened." God put in our hearts a desire to listen to and obey Him. No one can have a better life than that because He always knows the best way to think, speak, and live. Many times we have had to deny our own desires for God's ways, but, we have no regrets about having done that. No, we have nothing but peace and gladness about it and a happy marriage.
John 10:10-11 "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." These are beautiful encouraging words of Jesus.
