Just a couple of days after the Living Nativity I traveled to LA to help Ezra and Heather with their new little Luke (pictured below) who was born on Thanksgiving Day. One of the most delightful privileges in the world would have to be holding a new born grandbaby. Just look at those sweet innocent eyes and little mouth that hasn't said anything unkind to anyone.
While studying this week to teach about the holiness of God, I thought about how difficult it is for us to really grasp purity that is beyond that of a little newborn. Yet, as AW Tozer said, our ideas about holiness and purity are but a dingy gray compared to the pure white of God's holiness.
Consider this: "If there is one attribute of God that stands above all others, it has to be holiness. Jonathan Edwards said, 'A true love of God must begin with delight in His holiness, and not with a delight in any other attribute; for no other attribute is truly lovely without this.' And yet, how do we develop a 'delight' in holiness: It is 'foreign soil' for us fallen, sinful creatures. Tozer found it difficult to preach about, because he sensed that he could never do it justice." The Attributes of God, AW Tozer, pg. 85 in the study notes.
Wow, what a challenge for us to discuss the holiness of God this coming Thursday morning. I'll look forward to seeing you at 9:30.
